It seems like everything is taking place on Zoom or other video conferencing systems these days. From work meetings to happy hours to meetups to social visits. And, of course, your child’s schooling.

Video conferencing tools are built to be intuitive, but there are some tips and tricks that make navigating them even easier. Here are a few hacks that will save you time and effort as a parent:

    1. Bookmark the Zoom Room or Google Meeting link. Save your child’s classroom zoom link to your Bookmarks bar or make it a shortcut on your Desktop so that you don’t have to go hunting through emails for the link when it is time to start a classroom session.
    2. Sync to your calendar. If your child is using Zoom via a smartphone, it can be helpful to sync their schedule and due takes to the smartphone calendar application. Creating a Google calendar specifically for your child’s classroom information can distinguish it from other important family calendar information.
    3. Mute the microphone. It is easier for everyone if a parent mutes their child’s microphone by default. Encourage your children to participate nonverbally by using the Zoom emoji features such as the “clapping hands” or “thumbs up” to avoid disrupting the rest of the class.

Want even more support in managing your child’s online learning environment? We developed TeachPar as an easy online tool for organizing assignments, class calendars, parent-teacher communication and more.

Not only does our platform sync all events and due date information to your Google calendar, but it organizes classroom information by student. That way, parents don’t have to hunt through old emails or papers to find what they need. They can simply search under their student’s account by date to find all relevant information. As a bonus, they can also watch recorded videos and announcements uploaded by their child’s teachers for quick and efficient communication.
